The headline says it all... came back from a normal flight, completely puffed, cells were leaking solvent.
Fortunately it didn't burn.
The pack is Outrage XP 25 6S1P 5000 mAh 25 C.
Given that
- the pack is rated 125 amps continuous ...
- ... and 250! amps peak...
- ...I fly an 80 amps ESC
- ... that shuts down at 145 amps
those Outrage packs were a huge disappointment.
I guess it's done well above 100 flights - the two competition days alone were already 12. So it's paid for, compared to nitro.
Still I'm glad that I bought only one set of batteries.
BTW the older Outrage packs in my GAUI 200 gave me only trouble. And the five 25 C packs in my 450 deteriorated quite rapidly.
Conclusion? The higher-C Outrage packs are probably OK. The lower ones - "Extreme power" or not - stay away. At least that's what I will do - probably Hyperion is the new Outrage anyway.

My thoughts excactly. I had only 40-50 flights on mine before it burned. Now my Outrage 4s2200 25C packs are starting to die as well (around 80 flights on each).

Ilmeisesti tuo c arvo ilmoitetaan (paitsi yläkanttiin) niin myös vain uudelle kennolle. Kun kenno vanhenee sen sisäinen vastus pyrkii kasvamaan, eli c arvo pienenee. Akku ei saisi käytössä juurikaan lämmetä, koska lämmin kenno antaa enemmän virtaa ulos. Siten pakan keskellä oleva kenno antaa eniten virtaa ja muut jäävät vähemmälle "rasitukselle", seuraa epätasapainoa. Toisaalta jos tiedetään etä setuppi lämmittää kennot ja hyväksytään se, pitäisi ehkä laittaa jokin syklirja vain sitten, esim se 40 lentoa ja ottaa pakka sitten pois käytöstä tai laittaa se johonkin pienemmän virran käyttöön, näin jäisi se viimeinen lento todennäköisemmin tekemättä ja vältyttäisiin rajuilta reaktioilta pakan kuumetessa liikaa. Pakan kennojännitteet lennon jälkeen antaa myös tietoa siitä, mitä kennossa tapahtuu. Jos joku kennoista on toista tyhjempi ajon jälkeen se kielii ongelmista. Kun akkuja käytetään niille sopivilla virroilla ja kennot on tasalaatuisia, ei edes tasausta juurikaan tarvita kunhan vain katsoo mittarilla että kaikki kennot latautuu tasaisesti. Itse käytän tasureita enkä k.o tapaa suosittele kenellekään mutta tiedän kaverin joka näin tekee ja kennot ei ole hänellä vielä koskaan hajonneet vaikka on jo vuosoi käyttänyt 10-12 kennon pakkoja.

I just measured the remains, now that they have cooled down :)
11 cells are still pretty well in balance, one is dead. This wasn't an imbalance problem, instead I'm quite sure that the pack failed as a whole.
Reason: the plastic foil melted in several places underneath the pack, where it sits against the bottom plate.
Maybe the front pack failed first, because the other one sits outside the canopy and gets a bit more air.
I always use a balance charger, and check each cell voltage after every flight. There was no sign of imbalance (and, as said, besides the dead cell balance is OK).
No, those two packs are simply worn out. And that didn't take too many flights.

My opinion of Outrage batteries: Almost every brand of lipo batteries are made in china, just different label on it. Nice label nice price.

well live by that equation "made in china=all the same". And you'll be in for a surprise or two with your future LiPos :)
