I took mine with me on a work trip to France, did about a dozen flights. It's still summer down there, not too bad...

No, it's officially allowed for 450 packs (IATA regulations, "a reasonable amount").
The security lady in Paris called her supervisor, but he said there's nothing special about them. I had a copy of the rules with me, just in case.
With larger size LiPos, it gets more difficult (100 Wh limit).

Did you take the Heli with you to cabin or did it travel in the cargo bay?
Most of cheap-skate airlines allow only one hand luggage to cabin with you so it is whether heli or your laptop :)

no, it went to the cargo hold.
It's well protected inside the box. Although that will do little good if the whole suitcase is lost...
